Blue Island Wedding
Blue Island (formerly Portland) is a city in Cook County, Illinois, USA. The population was 23,463 at the 2000 census.
Blue Island is so named because it is situated on a ridge of land that was once an island when the glacial Lake Chicago existed thousands of years ago. The the name is also believed by some to be associated with a breed of blue flower that once covered the ridge, making it look like a blue island if viewed from a distance. Both of these name theories are speculations made by the town's population. Dinosaurs once roamed on this land and artifacts of dinosaur bones are found regularly in the backyards of residents while planting gardens. The city is a hub for Metra trains. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.7 km (4.1 mi). 10.4 km (4.0 mi) of it is land and 0.2 km (0.1 mi) of it (2.18%) is water.
